The Unicorn Hamantaschen Recipe of Your Dreams

Pure magic.

It’s almost time for Purim, a time of year when we drink and celebrate in all kinds of fun and crazy ways: by dressing up, showering friends and family with treats of mishloach manot and telling the story of Esther and Haman.

Speaking of crazy and fun, these unicorn hamantaschen are basically all of our dreams come true. The cheery pastel colors, sparkly sprinkles, fluffy cotton candy and pillow-y marshmallows all contribute to this cookie’s magic. It may look impressive and complicated, but the truth is: It’s quite easy.

All you need to make these fun treats is chocolate melts, lots of sprinkles, cotton candy or marshmallows. Use your favorite hamantaschen recipe and filling (I used a tart strawberry jam for my filling to cut all that sweetness) and voila — you’ve got yourself the most magical hamantaschen out there!

You can also customize these however you like, and use what you already have in your pantry. You can change up the colors of the melted chocolate, add whipped cream and even dye the dough your favorite color! Get creative, and most importantly, have fun.

Unicorn Hamantaschen

These colorful, magical treats are the hamantaschen of your dreams!

  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • hamantaschen dough (like this one)
  • your favorite filling (e.g. strawberry jam)
  • 1 bag pink chocolate candy melts
  • 1 bag purple chocolate candy melts
  • variety of sprinkles
  • cotton candy
  • mini marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Make your favorite hamantaschen dough recipe. Roll out the dough and cut out circles using a cookie cutter. Fill the center of the circles with your favorite filling. I prefer to use a tart fruit filling to break up the sweetness of all the toppings. Bake, and cool completely.
  2. In the meantime, melt your chocolate in separate bowls.
  3. Once the hamantaschen are cool, place them on a surface you don’t mind getting messy. Drizzle the melted chocolate on the hamantaschen and generously top with a variety of sprinkles. Then, place small pieces of cotton candy in the center along with a mini marshmallow. If the marshmallow is too big, cut it in half. Allow the chocolate to dry, and enjoy!
